Setting up Google Maps

Here we will show you how to setup Google Maps on your review site.

Login to the dashboard of your WordPress site

Here you will see "Review Site" in the left sidebar (1). Click on that to open the "General Settings" page.

Now select "Google Maps"

Once in "General Settings", you can click on "Google Maps" (1).

The "Google Maps" page

For those who are reviewing conventional bussinesses, or want to have a local directory on their site, it can be a very useful feature to provide a Google map with your post. This page is where you can set it up.

Enable Google maps on your site, and choose where the map will appear

Simply tick this box (1) to enable the Google maps feature, then choose to display the map at the top or bottom (2) of your posts.

You will need to get a Google Maps API

Apply for your Google Maps API by clicking here (1), then enter your API here (2).

Decide on the size of the map to show on your site

You might need to experiment a little to get the size right, but it is very easy to enter the size of map to display on your site.

Decide on the initial zoom level for your map

As a rule of thumb, I like to be able to distinguish some well known landmarks, so your visitors get some idea of the general area at first glance. Of course, your visitors can change this zoom level for themselves, so it is only the initial zoom level that you are setting.

Save your changes!

Please remember to click the "Save Changes" button, before leaving this page, or you will need to enter your prefferences again.

Now that you have completed the options for your Google Maps, you need to add some things to your posts

For each post that you want a Google map to appear on, you need to add the custom field "mapaddress" (1), and an address (2), then click the "Add Custom Field" button (3). You will find the "Custom Fields" controls (shown above), if you scroll down the page, under your post.
